Student Housing Phase 3 Renovations and Utility Infrastructure
Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota The third phase of the student housing project began in the first floor area of Davis Hall that was previously occupied by the Student Health and Counseling department. The relocation of this department and its services to the new 1974 Center in the fall of 2025, enabled the college to take back space that was once dedicated to student housing. Twelve dorm rooms were gained, featuring singles, doubles and one triple, and including three dorm rooms that are now ADA accessible with adjoining accessible bathrooms. A student lounge, kitchen and student nook provide new student gathering and study space. The renovation timeline was compressed to ensure the student housing and common spaces would be ready for the start of the winter term. In addition, four existing campus houses, Douglas, Page, Parish and Rice, were renovated to extend the useful life of the buildings for another 30-50 years. Each house was provided with increased community space, improved access and improved energy efficiency. All of the renovation work was completed while maintaining the existing bed count and retaining historical features and character of the houses. Mechanical, electrical and low voltage systems were replaced. HVAC systems use a groundwater-based geothermal Darcy Well. Carleton College has a strong commitment to sustainable building practices as outlined in their Sustainable Futures Framework. Budget $19,627,000 |
